Our Mission

Elevate the voices of Black game developers to help them to succeed in the game industry.

Who We Are

Black Voices in Gaming is a Black-led, national 501c3 nonprofit founded in Oakland California committed to increasing Black representation and Inclusion within the Gaming Industry. We are a growing and thriving community of Black Game Developers curating culturally relevant games centered on Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC) lived experience. We’re putting our money where our mouth is and are excited to announce our Accelerator Program and Fund, which provides Black game developers with critical funding and other vital resources necessary to produce and publish their video games.

Our History

Black Voices in Gaming started out as an event during The MIX-produced showcase, Guerrilla Collective during the summer of 2020 when MIX co-founder Justin Woodward was feeling very frustrated with the industry's response on supporting Black developers during the social unrest after the tragedies of Brionna Taylor and George Floyd. Raw Fury Co-founder, David Martinez reached out to Justin for support and they came up with the idea to amplify the voices of Black developers, by allowing them to tell their stories. IGN, Twitch, and Gamespot provided amplification support, and Raw Fury and Kickstarter provided financial support to make it happen. After nearly 2 years Black Voices in Gaming is a non-profit organization aimed at helping developers succeed and have their voices heard.
